If you’ve been slathering on all of the oils, creams, and balms in an attempt to combat dry, flaky wintertime skin—only to find yourself still craving moisture hours later—then it’s high time you’ve met Tula’s new Ultra-Hydrating Day & Night Cream ($58).

The skin-care brand makes some of our favorite products, from the cooling eye balm celebs swear by, to the “filter” primer that blurs skin to perfection, so we were immediately intrigued when we learned about this new moisturizer. An upgraded version of the brand’s best-selling Hydrating Day & Night Cream ($54), this new, ultra-rich cream packs even more moisture, deeply nourishing dry skin and strengthening its skin barrier—for smoother, firmer, and more moisturized skin day and night. Even better, dermatologists say it’s everything dry skin needs to cope with the cold, dry weather.

“A good moisturizer needs to contain the combination of humectants to hydrate the skin, emollients to support the skin barrier, and occlusives to lock in moisture,” explains Hadley King MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. “This moisturizer contains all three.”

According to Dr. King, it’s this balanced blend of ingredients that’s the secret to the cream’s “24/7” promise. Humectant ingredients like hyaluronic acid and collagen draw in the moisture, the Moisturelock Pressed Oil Blend (which contains emollient argan and camellia oils) softens and moisturizes, and the necessary occlusives locks all of the goodness in for lasting hydration.

The Ultra-Hydrating Cream also contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that also has humectant properties, according to Dr. King, so it gently exfoliates and hydrates at the same time—perfect for tackling that dry, flaky skin we get in the winter months. “My face was suffering from dryness [and] itchiness during this winter,” shared a Tula shopper in a 5-star review. “but this product is ultra hydrating [and] now my face is as smooth as silk.”

Despite its richness, the Ultra-Hydrating Day & Night Cream doesn’t feel oily or heavy on the skin. Which could be attributed to the hyaluronic acid in the formula, according to Kim Nichols MD FAAD, board-certified dermatologist and founder of NicholsMD of Greenwich. “Hyaluronic acid helps skin retain moisture, without leaving a greasy residue or film on the skin.” And Tula shoppers love the way it feels, too. “This cream is thick like butter, yet feels so light on my face,” gushed a shopper in a 5-star review. “This is by far the best cream I have used. I’m obsessed!”

The cherry on top of this super moisturizing sundae is the antioxidant and peptides in the formula, according to Dr. Nichols. “This moisturizer is formulated with powerhouse antioxidants,” says Dr. Nichols. Antioxidant-rich blueberry extract and sea buckthorn help protect skin from free radical damage (which can accelerate the signs of skin aging) and support a brighter, more radiant complexion. “Peptides, on the other hand, work to stimulate collagen production and aid in restoring skin’s barrier, leaving skin healthier, firmer, and smoother overall.”
